CLUB ACTIVITIES

Prakruthi Club, Department of Civil Engineering, organized the one day work shop on Environment awareness Programme for budding Engineering students on 27/03/2017. The theme of the Programme was “Green Sooch”. The chief guest for the Programme was Vrukshamathe – Saalumarada Thimmakka, a famous Environmentalist. She is now 105 years old, but her invaluable services done to our environment has got worldwide recognition. She has planted 384 banyan trees along 4km stretch road from Hulikal to Kudoor. She has incited many other young people and this is the reason why we are conducted the event as well.

The programme was started by invocation song by Music club members followed by lighting of lamp by the Chief Guest Saalumarada Thimmakka, Principal Dr Manjunatha and Dr.P.S.Niranjan, HOD-Civil Engg Dept.

Welcome speech was delivered byMr. Adeel Jeelni (in English) and Miss. Chaitra (in Kannada),theyalso spoke on the importance of this programme and introduced the Chief Guest Saalumarada Thimmakka. Registrar Surya Prakash, Principal Dr. Manjunatha and Dr. Niranjan,  felicitated the Chief Guest with memento and honorarium.

Dr Manjunatha, Principal NHCE gave a speech on Environmental awareness with live examples like Bellandur lake pollution and brief out about the Saalumarada Thimmakka & her incredible and massive environmental service.He suggested all the engineering students to do plantation at least in front of their houses.

Later, Saalumarada Thimmakka shared her own experience with young engineering students and suggested to do environmental service by growing trees.

Mr. Umesh, her foster son, addressed the gathering with inspirational speech on environment and its protection through awareness programmes.

At last Saalumarada Thimmakka planted two trees in front of library along with Registrar Surya Prakash, Principal Dr. Manjunatha and Dr. P.S. Niranjan, Hod-Civil.
