INFRASTRUCTURE
There are eight laboratories in civil engineering department for testing of materials and to gain knowledge of the machinery used in civil engineering applications. The labs are fully furnished with all equipment required for the same.
The department is equipped with following laboratories:
Hydraulic and Hydraulic Machinery Laboratory
The laboratory is equipped with a number of equipments and experimental setups to study the fundamental and applied aspects of hydraulics and hydraulic machines. The setups are used for calibration of flow measuring devices used in channels and pipes. Measurements of critical Performance parameters like efficiency, flow rate etc of various hydraulic machines such as turbines & pumps. The equipments are operated in a closed loop system which conserves water and averts the need for large quantities of water supply.
CAD Lab
The CAD Laboratory has state of the art infrastructure and software. There is a compulsory laboratory session in the curriculum for undergraduates. Besides, the available facilities are extended to undergraduates for updating their knowledge of Auto-Cad, STAAD, ETAB, MS project, Primavera, E-Survey and also project works.
Civil Design Lab
The civil design Laboratory has state of the art infrastructure and software. There is a compulsory laboratory session in the curriculum for undergraduates. Besides, the available facilities are extended to undergraduates for updating their knowledge of analysis and design software like STAAD, ETABS, and Primavera.
Concrete and Highway Materials Testing laboratory
The Concrete and Highway Materials Testing laboratory is equipped with facilities for testing and design of concrete and bituminous mixes. The students will be testing the ingredients of concrete and bituminous mixes and also evaluating critical parameters that decide in their selection. The Laboratory is also actively engaged in various consultancy works related to material testing.
Basic Material Testing Laboratory
Material testing involves the measurement of the characteristics and their behaviour under various conditions. The data thus obtained can be used in specifying the suitability of materials for various applications like building materials and construction. The laboratory offers consultancy services in carrying out various tests on building materials.
Geo-Technical Engineering Laboratory
Geo –Technical engineering lab is well established and equipped to conduct soil test and to determine soil properties and to classify soil. The various equipments are Direct shear test apparatus, Triaxial shear test apparatus, CBR test apparatus, apparatus to determine various indices of soil , Hydrometer test, Augers, Soil Sample extruder ,Vane shear test apparatus, UCC test apparatus, Permeability apparatus, Cone penetrometer , Compaction apparatus and Shrinkage limit apparatus. This laboratory is actively engaged in offering its consultancy services.
Surveying Practice
Surveying practice lab is also equipped with state of the art equipments such as Total Station, auto levels and digital planimeter in addition toTheodolite, Dumpy level, Auto level, Chain, Prismatic Compass, Surveyor’s Compass, Ceylon Ghat tracer, Box sextant, Hand level, Substance bar, Steel band and Plane table with accessories, leveling staff, Optical square and Pantograph. Extensive survey camp spreading over two weeks is conducted regularly in Shree Subramanya Ghatti ,Doddaballapura., wherein the students will undergo rigorous practical training related to surveying and planning of projects such as Highway, water supply , construction of small dams, estimation of reservoir capacity and auguring the capacity of the existing lake.
Environmental Engineering Lab
The Laboratory has all the state of the art facilities for conducting various tests for determining the quality of potable and waste water. The undergraduate students are encouraged to take up topics in the field of Environmental Engineering for their project work by making use of facilities available in the laboratory. Analysis and testing of water and wastewater samples are being regularly done for various public and private agencies. Consultancy works in the field of water pollution, air pollution and land pollution are also being undertaken.
